Former Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam on Thursday trained guns on the grand old party after being expelled saying the party is directionless and has five power centres currently.
Addressing a press conference, Nirupam said that he had tendered his resignation from the party before it expelled him only to waste paper.
"...I made an announcement yesterday and sent my resignation to Mallikarjun Kharge at around 10:40. I think right after they made this decision (to expel me from the party)...Congress party is a completely scattered party and the leaders of the party have also said that its ideology is directionless...," he said.
Coming down heavily on the Congress high command, he said that there are currently five power centres in the party that are clashing with each other. These power centres rest with Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and KC Venugopal.
"All have their separate power centers and these lobbies keep exerting their power against each other," he added.
Nirupam was expelled by the party on Wednesday for six years following complaints of indiscipline and anti-party statements. The disciplinary action was taken against the veteran politician for his recent remarks targeting party ally and Maha Vikas Aghadi member Shiv Sena (UBT) in the state.
Ahead of expelling Nirupam from Congress, the party dropped his name from the list of star campaigners for the Lok Sabha polls.
Calls for action against him grew after he castigated the state leadership for "ceding" constituencies in Mumbai to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena during seat-sharing talks for the Lok Sabha elections.
Nirupam, who was anticipating a ticket by the Congress from the Mumbai North West seat, had slammed the party after ally Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) announced candidates on 4 of 6 seats in Mumbai including the North West seat.
