New Delhi: The Samajwadi Party wrote a letter to the Election Commission requesting it to issue instructions to CM Yogi Adityanath to use the "language in accordance of the Model Code of Conduct."
In the letter, the party was bringing to the notice of the commission that the language used by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh while campaigning is inappropriate and doesn't come under decent language. The letter continued stating that there is no justification for such language in a democracy. The party complained about the threatening words used by the party while campaigning.
The letter said that even during the throes of the election campaign abusive language towards the opponent is not justified, especially when it comes from somebody who is an elected Chief Minister.
"Uttar Pradesh is the largest state in the country and frequent violations of the model code of conduct by the ruling party have serious implications for both the integrity and freedom of elections", the letter stated.
The letter said that instruction should be made clear to the party about the appropriate language in accordance with the model code of conduct.
"The Samajwadi Party demands that effective instructions should be issued immediately to the Chief Minister regarding the use of language in accordance with the dignity of the post, restrained, limited and in accordance with the model code of conduct, to conduct free, fair and fearless elections in Uttar Pradesh".
