New Delhi: Robert Vadra, the brother-in-law of Congress President Rahul Gandhi, has said that he will take the plunge into politics at "an appropriate time." The husband of recently appointed AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi claimed that he is receiving offers from several villages and constituencies from where people expect him to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. “I don't have to necessarily be a politician to serve people. My motive is to help the downtrodden, senior citizens, underprivileged children and women,” he told ABP News while distributing quilts to homeless people outside a temple in Lodhi Road.

Posters were recently put in Moradabad by Congress workers urging Vadra to contest polls from there. "Robert Vadraji, you are welcome to contest from the Moradabad Lok Sabha seat," the posters by "Moradabad Youth Congress" read.

The businessman who is enmeshed in a money laundering case was given interim protection from arrest last Saturday by a Delhi court Special Judge Arvind Kumar extended the interim protection from arrest to Vadra and his associate Manoj Arora till March 19.

The court also directed them to appear before the Enforcement Directorate, which is presently investigating the matter, whenever he is summoned. The court was hearing Vadra and Arora's anticipatory bail pleas.

Vadra is facing probe for alleged illegal purchasing of properties in the UK and an alleged land scam in Bikaner, Rajasthan. On December 7, 2018, the ED had raided several of Vadra's properties in Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru.  He has appeared multiple times before the investigative agency for questioning in Delhi and Jaipur.

Speaking on the allegations, he said, “Since last election they are exerting a lot of pressure on me. I am not worried since I haven’t done anything wrong. One has to wait for truth to triumph.”

Vadra has been alleging that he is being "hounded and harassed" for political motives.
