The Congress has released its third list of candidates for the Rajasthan elections. In its third list, the Congress has fielded Sitting MLA from the Taranagar constituency Narendra Budania against Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly Rajendra Singh Rathore.

Earlier, BJP had moved Churu MLA Rathore to contest the Taranagar seat. Budania is a former Lok Sabha MP from Churu.

The Rajasthan Congress named 19 candidates, including Budania in the third list. The party has so far released the names of 95 candidates for the 200-seat assembly. The party released 33 and 43 names in the first and second lists, respectively, for the November 23 elections.

Other names on the third list are as follows:

The Congress had named Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot from his current seat — Sardarpura, while Sachin Pilot was named to defend Tonk.

The Gazette notification for the Rajasthan election will be published on October 30. The deadline for filing nominations is November 6 and they will be scrutinised on November 7. Candidature can be withdrawn till November 9 the EC had said earlier. The results will be declared on December 3 along with those of other states.

Rajasthan has a trend of electing the BJP and the Congress alternatively since 1993. The Congress is, however, hoping to buck the trend and retain power, riding on the welfare schemes announced by the Gehlot government over the past five years, especially those related to LPG subsidies, inflation relief camps, employment schemes, social security plan, etc.

The BJP, meanwhile, seeks to corner the Ashok Gehlot government over allegations of corruption, poor women's security, and factionalism within the party.
