Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday (October 6) announced the creation of three new districts within the state. Malpura, Sujangarh, and Kuchman City will now join Rajasthan's ever-expanding list of administrative regions, bringing the total count of districts to 53. It is to be noted that assembly elections in the state are slated to be held by the end of this year.
According to CM Gehlot, the decision to establish these new districts was based on both public demand and recommendations provided by a high-level committee. This move aims to enhance administrative efficiency and bring government services closer to the people of these regions, he said.
In a statement shared on his official platform, Gehlot said, "As per public demand and recommendation of a high-level committee, three new districts will be created in Rajasthan." He further emphasised that this approach to district demarcation aligns with the committee's recommendations and will continue to be the guiding principle for future decisions in this regard.
This announcement follows the state government's proactive stance on district reorganisation, with 17 new districts having been formed in August earlier this year.
The district of Jaipur was divided into Jaipur and Jaipur Rural, and the district of Jodhpur was divided into Jodhpur and Jodhpur Rural.
Apoongarh, Balotra, Beawar, Deeg, Didwana-Kuchaman, Dudu, Gangapur City, Kekri, Kotputli-Behror, Khairthal-Tijara, Neem ka Thana, Phalodi, Slumber, Sanchore, and Shahpura are the other new districts.
It should be noted here that the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly election is scheduled to be held in or before November 2023 to elect all 200 members. The tenure of the state Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end on 14 January 2024. The previous assembly elections were held in December 2018.
