New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav had to cancel a joint rally in Phulpur without delivering speech as supporters broke through barricades trying to reach the stage.

As per reports, several Congress and SP supporters gathered at the rally venue in anticipation of the event. However, upon Akhilesh Yadav's arrival, the crowd surged towards the stage, broke the barricades to reach the dais and leading to a chaotic "stampede-like" situation.

Despite efforts to calm the crowd, Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav were compelled to vacate the stage, escorted by their security personnel.

In a video clip shared by the SP and Congress, people on the stage can be heard asking the supporters to move back. However, the crowd refused to move back.

The campaign rally, held in support of Amarnath Maurya, contesting for the Phulpur Lok Sabha seat on an SP ticket.
