New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a virtual rally in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib and Ludhiana constituencies today. In his first virtual rally in the state, Prime Minister said his party’s goal is to create a “Nawan Punjab” (New Punjab) and that they have the vision to translate this goal into reality. 


"BJP's goal is to create a 'Nawan (new) Punjab'. We have the vision and a track record of work,” said the PM during his virtual rally.


“Working for the Punjabiyat and the Sikh culture is my privilege,” he said and added that the BJP always stood for the Sikh community.






Attacking the government Prime Minister Modi said that while his party stood for the Sikh culture there were some people for whom Punjab has only remained a path to gain political power. He added that some people let Punjab burn in the fire of terrorism to remain in power.

PM Modi promised to form a border area development authority if his party was elected to power and targeted the Congress that it could not keep Kartarpur Sahib in India. 


“We'll form a border area development authority in Punjab. Congress could not keep Kartarpur Sahib in India. In order to remain in power, some people let Punjab burn in the fire of terrorism. It has been the identity of Punjab to keep India ahead,” PM Modi said in his address. 


He said that he will soon visit Punjab and meet the people there. 


While the BJP has not yet declared any Chief Ministerial candidate for the Punjab Election 2022, the Congress has announced Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi as its CM candidate from the Chamkaur Sahib constituency.


The Aam Aadmi Party declared Bhagwant Mann as their candidate for the race of Chief Minister in the state. 


Punjab will be undergoing Assembly polls in a single phase on February 20. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
