Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesaday took a ride in the country's first underwater metro in Kolkata. During his ride, he interacted with staff members of the Kolkata metro and students who accompanied them on the metro. Bharatiya Janata Party Bengal chief Sukanta Majumdar and West Bengal Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari were also present during the ride with PM Modi. 


The Prime Minister inaugurated the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata Metro's East-West corridor India's first underwater metro service. 










During the event, Modi virtualy inaugurated a series of metro rail projects from Kolkata including Kolkata Metro's Howrah Maidan- Esplanade Metro section, Kavi Subhash - Hemanta Mukhopadhyay Metro section, Taratala - Majerhat Metro section (part of Joka- Esplanade line). 


He also flagged off train services on Pune Metro from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi stretch; Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension project (Phase IB) from SN Junction Metro station to Tripunithura Metro station; Agra Metro's stretch from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar; and Duhai-Modinagar (North) section of Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor.

Modi also laid the foundation stone for extension project of Pune Metro Rail phase 1 between Pimpri Chinchwad Metro-Nigdi.


After his Kolkata programme, PM Modi will visit Barasat in North 24 Parganas where he will address a women's rally amid Sandeshkhali row. 


Later in the day, Modi will be in Bihar's Bettiah where he will launch developmental projects worth Rs 8,700 crore related to rail, road, petroleum, and natural gas sectors.
