Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to commence his Lok Sabha election campaign in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, starting with a rally in Meerut, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded actor Arun Govil, known for his role as Lord Ram in the TV serial 'Ramayan', as its candidate. PM Modi's rally will feature Arun Govil and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Jayant Chaudhary, who recently joined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Arun Govil, acclaimed for his portrayal of Lord Ram, holds significant reverence among the electorate.

According to party sources, the rally in Meerut, coordinated by BJP's state General Secretary Anoop Gupta, is expected to draw attendees from nearby constituencies such as Baghpat, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, and Kairana, news agency PTI reported.

Senior BJP leader and MLC Govind Narayan Shukla expressed confidence that the rally would mark a significant moment in western Uttar Pradesh, asserting that the BJP and its allies are poised to secure all 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Emphasising the importance of the rally, a BJP leader noted that it marks the initiation of the election campaign for the 2024 elections in Uttar Pradesh. The party views it as an auspicious occasion for party workers, with PM Modi's presence symbolising the beginning of the electoral journey, PTI's report stated.

RLD spokesperson Atir Rizvi confirmed Jayant Chaudhary's participation in the rally, where issues concerning sugarcane growers, farmers, and the development of western Uttar Pradesh are expected to feature prominently, as per the report.
