Patan Election Result 2023: Despite a poor show in the Chhattisgarh Assembly polls, Congress has something to cheer about as state Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel registered a win at the Patan assembly seat. He defeated his closest rival, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Vijay Baghel, by a margin of 19,723.

Talking about the overall result, Congress witnessed a shock in Chhattisgarh after the BJP handed over a big defeat to the grand old party. When the counting of votes began in the state at 8 AM, the two parties, who were in direct contest against each other in the state, were neck to neck in the initial phase of counting. With time, the saffron party consolidated its lead and breached the majority mark to gain a healthy lead to unseat Congress in the state.

The voting in the state took place in two phases. The phase 1 voting was held on November 7, and the phase 2 voting took place on November 17.

Chhattisgarh has 90 assembly seats, out of which, in the first phase, voting was held on 20 seats in 12 districts under the Bastar division, the most Naxal-infested region in the state. The first phase recorded a voter turnout of 78 per cent. In the second phase of voting, the remaining 70 constituencies underwent polling that saw a voter turnout of 68.15 per cent.

According to the ABP News-CVoter Opinion Poll, the grand old party is facing opposition from 48.5% of the voters, who are 'angry and want to change the government'. However, 44.8% of voters say they are "not angry and do not want to change the government". The projections for vote share and seats have also given an edge to Baghel. The projected vote share for Congress is 44.8% and the party is likely to win 45 to 51 seats. The saffron party closely trailed the Congress with a projected vote share of 42.7% expecting to win 36 to 42 seats, as per the survey.
