Opposition Alliance In Assam Ready For 'Supreme Sacrifice' to Defeat BJP: Assam Congress

The opposition alliance also decided to bring the misgovernance, rampant corruption cases, and anti-public policies of the current government to the public, through a unified action plan.

Guwahati: A crucial meeting of 15 opposition parties in Assam was held in the state capital Guwahati on Thursday (October 26) to work out strategies for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The meeting included discussions regarding the list of candidates and for creation of a common minimum programme for next year’s general elections.

The party chiefs and other senior leaders of the alliance partners participated in the meeting and all the parties unanimously reiterated its resolution to end the misgovernance and endless saga of corruption of the anti-public Bharatiya Janata Party-led government, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), said in a press release.  

All the opposition alliance parties participating in the meeting, once again reiterated to ensure one united candidate in each constituency against the BJP and to ensure that no vote division happens in Lok Sabha as well as the assembly elections. The opposition alliance decided to have a Common Minimum Programme under the leadership of Trinamool Congress, Assam Pradesh, President, Ripun Bora and to draft a chargesheet against the current government under the leadership of Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan and Deputy Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Rockybul Hussain, the APCC release said.  

Both the reports will be discussed in the upcoming session of the opposition alliance to be held in the state’s Dibrugarh district by end of November. The opposition alliance also decided to bring the misgovernance, rampant corruption cases, and anti-public policies of the current government to the public, through a unified action plan. The opposition alliance parties declared that all parties are ready for “supreme personal and political sacrifices” to defeat the BJP both in Centre and state, it said.

Sivasagar MLA and Raijor Dol Chief Akhil Gogoi declared that in the interest of the opposition alliance, the regional party will not demand any seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the release added.

Meanwhile, two more organizations; Shiv Sena, Assam and the All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC) of Karbi Anglong, under the leadership of John Ingti Kathar, joined the opposition alliance on Thursday, making the opposition alliance in Assam strength to 15 parties.
