MP Elections 2023: A day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for polling in Madhya Pradesh and four other states, the Congress has said that the ruling BJP's defeat is "inevitable" in the upcoming assembly elections. Party leader Kamal Nath said that the saffron party should decide on its own by what margin it wants to lose as people of MP have recognised them (BJP leaders). adding that their fuse will be blown this time.
"BJP should decide by how many (seats) it wants to lose the elections. Their defeat is inevitable; voters of Madhya Pradesh have recognised them," the MP Congress chief said.
Congress won the elections in 2018 but the then Kamal Nath government fell after Jyotiraditya Scinidia led a number of his loyalists and joined the BJP within two years.
On the other hand, the BJP on Monday released its fourth list containing a list of 57 candidates for the upcoming assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan will contest from Budhni, State's HM Narottam Mishra from Datia, Gopal Bhargava from Rehli, Vishwas Sarang from Narela and Tulsiram Silavat to contest from Sanwer constituencies.
EC has set Nov 17 as the date of voting for the Madhya Pradesh elections while the results will be announced on December 3, along with other four states -- Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram.
MP Opinion Poll 2023: Tight Contest May Help Congress Return To Power
ABP-CVoter attempted to gauge the mood of the voters in MP. The opinion poll suggests a close fight between BJP and Congress where the latter could secure between 113 to 125 seats, while the BJP is likely to secure 104 to 116 seats out of 230. The ruling BJP has a marginal edge with a 0.1 per cent higher vote share compared to the Congress. The Congress is projected to secure a 44.6 per cent vote share, while the BJP is estimated to receive 44.7 per cent. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) may secure 2.1 per cent of the votes, and 8.6 per cent could go to other parties.
