Mizoram Election 2023 Date: The Election Commission of India on Friday announced that the counting of votes for Mizoram polls, which were held on Nov 7, will now be carried out on Dec 4 (Monday) instead of Dec 3 (Sunday). Notably, the results of five states that when to elections last month were scheduled to be declared on Dec 3. However, the poll body issued a notification announcing the change just two days before the counting schedule.
EC said it received representations from various quarters requesting a change in date for the counting to some other day as Sunday is a "special significance" for the people of the Christian-dominated.
"The Commission has received several representations from various quarters requesting for change in date of counting from 3rd December, 2023 (Sunday) to some other week day, on the ground that 3rd December, 2023 being Sunday a special significance for the people of Mizoram," the notification said.
"The Commission, having considered these representations, has decided to revise the date of counting for the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Mizoram from 3rd December 2023 (Sunday) to 4th December 2023 (Monday)," it added.
Exit Poll Suggests CM Zoramthanga Will Face Critical Test
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga-led Mizo National Front (MNF) may fall short of a majority but is likely to emerge as the largest party in the state, according to ABP-CVoter exit poll. MNF has been in power in the state since 2018.
The hill state is expected to witness a three-way battle between the MNF, the main opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), and the Congress, even though the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was in the fray. The ABP-CVoter exit poll has predicted that MNF, which is the largest party in the hill state, is likely to get anywhere between 15 to 21 seats. Regional party ZMP is predicted to get 12 to 18 seats, while the Congress is projected to get 2 to 8 seats.
