Meghalaya Elections 2023: The Bharatiya Janta Party has said that it will not put any restrictions on the eating habits of the people of the state if it comes to power. Attacking the TMC and other opposition parties for confusing people of the state, the party said it respects 'regional sentiments' in the same way it honors 'national priorities'.
Talking to PTI, BJP's national secretary Ritu Raj Sinha said, "BJP respects regional sentiments and cultures like it honours national priorities. We believe that eating habits and clothing are a matter of personal choice. We have our governments in Nagaland and Goa. Nobody has put restrictions on anyone’s eating choice there."
" It is an attempt by the TMC and other parties to confuse people of the state," he added.
Earlier, talking to ANI, Meghalaya BJP chief Ernest Mawrie said, "If we win, BJP will not change eating habits, there won't be any restrictions (on beef-eating). After coming to power, we'll develop infrastructure in the state. We'll form govt with those like-minded parties that are against corruption."
Campaigning for his party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that some people in the country who are immersed in sadness and are now saying 'Modi teri kabar khudegi' but the people of the country are saying 'Modi tera kamal khilega'.
Speaking at a rally in Shillong in the poll-bound state of Meghalaya, PM Modi said, "Some people who have been rejected by the country are immersed in sadness and are now saying 'Modi teri kabar khudegi' but the people of the country are saying 'Modi tera kamal khilega'. The public will give a befitting reply to such people, he added.
Ahead of the Meghalaya Assembly elections, PM Modi held a roadshow in Shillong on Friday. The roadshow started at Central Library and concluded at the Police Bazar where he addressed a public rally. The roadshow received a massive response as people queued up on both sides of the road through which the Prime Minister's cavalcade passed.
PM Modi was also seen greeting people and waving at them. He also paid floral tributes to three freedom fighters of the state - U Tirot Sing, U Kiang Nangbah, and Pa Togan Sangma in Shillong. Security was beefed up in Shillong ahead of PM Modi's visit.
