New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda on Thursday released the party’s manifesto for the Manipur Assembly elections.
Nadda said this manifesto is “not a piece of paper”, but the BJP’s commitment in the next five years.
Lambasting the opponents, Nadda said: “None of the political parties ever dared to show their report card. It is only Bharatiya Janata Party…we believe in what we say and what is our commitment.”
“As far as other political parties are concerned, for them it is a mere piece of paper. Every time they come out with commitments in a new way, but as far as the performance is concerned, we all know what they have provided and what they have given to us,” he added.
Nadda said that the manifesto has been prepared after consultations with all sections of the society.
“We have talked about empowering of the women, empowering of the youths, empowering of the farmers and supporting the poor, marginal deprived people who are the left outs,” said Nadda.
“They are being strengthened, that is the focus area. And for all this to provide infrastructure to boost the economy. The area of focus will be infrastructure, health and education,” he added
The BJP president called for preserving the rights of the indigenous people of Manipur.
“We commit that we will be providing two free LPG cylinders to the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala beneficiaries. This is again empowering the women. This is again empowering the poor. This is again empowering the left outs,” he added.
Highlighting the party’s manifesto regarding education, Nadda said: “We are going to provide free scooty to all meritorious college going girls of the state…This is empowering the women, this is empowering the female section of the society, making them stand for their education and go forward in a big way.”
“The girls from the economical weaker sections and the backward sections will be given an incentive of 25,000 rupees for their education and development. We will be distributing and we will be providing free laptops to all meritorious students passing Class 12th and support them for higher education,” he added.
Nadda further said scholarships will be given to all children of the small and marginal farmers and landless farmers.
“For the social sector, we are going to increase the monthly pension of the senior citizens and the beneficiaries from Rs 200 to Rs 1,000,” said Nadda.
“Free of cost accidental insurance will be given to the tune of Rs five lakh to all fishermen of the state,” he added.
Asserting Manipur is the gateway of development of north-east, the BJP president said the state has seen a sea change in the last five years under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and his team.
“We should also remember that Manipur has undergone a change from instability to stability and from stability to a big leap and is on the higher side of the leap today where it is going forward,” said Nadda.
“And it is with this commitment, I can assure you that we will be ensuring a very big leap of development in coming times,” he added.
Nadda further said Manipur has undergone from instability to stability, insurgency to peace and from divisive politics to a united BJP and a united state.
“We had seen fake encounters and now there is rule of law. We had seen a drug menace, now we have seen that the state is committed for zero tolerance for drugs,” said Nadda.
“Today it is good governance which is ruling Manipur. The state was known for blockades and bandhs, now it is known for development, peace, prosperity,” he added.
Elections to 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly will be held in two phases.
Voting for the first phase of election will now take place on February 28, while the second phase of voting will happen on March 5.
The results will be declared on March 10.
