KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday took at dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying if people were to watch movies on personalities they would see films on Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar and not on Modi.

Referring to a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Banerjee said: "Why will people watch your film? If people want to watch films they will watch films on Gandhiji, Ambedkar ji, why Modi?"

What contribution he has made to India, the TMC chief asked.

Further escalating her attack, she said if Modi returned to power, he would throw away the Constitution and change the country from a democracy to a totalitarian regime.

Modi has three slogans "loot", "riots" and "kill the people", she said at a rally in Cooch Behar.

Claiming that it was the TMC government which solved the six decade-old enclave issue with Bangladesh in 2015, Banerjee said the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill was an attempt by the BJP to turn legal citizens of the country into refugees.

"We (TMC) will never allow NRC (National Register of Citizens) in Bengal. Modi is no one to decide who will stay and leave the country. The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is another ploy to turn legal citizens of this country into refugees. We should be careful of their (BJP's) sinister plot," she said.

Mocking Modi for his 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' campaign, the chief minister said the 'chaiwallah' (tea seller) who failed to fulfil promises made during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls has now turned into a 'chowkidar' (watchman) to fool people.

Release of biopic on PM Narendra Modi postponed till further notice, says producer

The release of "PM Narendra Modi", a biopic on the prime minister, has been postponed till further notice, its producer Sandip Ssingh said on Thursday. "This is to confirm, our film 'PM Narendra Modi' is not releasing on 5th April. Will update soon," Ssingh posted on Twitter.

The Congress had complained to the Election Commission over the release of the film on April 5, just a week before the first phase of polls were to begin.

Opposition parties, including the Congress, alleged the film will give undue advantage to the BJP in electioneering and its release should be deferred till the elections are over.
