Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh began an indefinite sit-in outside a police station, demanding the arrest of BJP candidate Arvind Pateria from the Rajnagar constituency in connection with the alleged murder of a Congress worker during the state assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. The incident involved a clash between BJP and Congress workers in Rajnagar, leading to the death of Congress worker Salman Khan on Friday.

Police registered a case of alleged murder against Pateria and others late on Friday night, stating that Khan was run over by a car. MP BJP Chief V D Sharma claimed Khan's death was an accident, while Singh insisted it was a murder. Singh took the deceased Salman Khan's body to the Khajuraho police station, where he began the sit-in along with other Congress workers

“I am not going to withdraw the protest until the accused are arrested," Digvijaya Singh told reporters, as quoted by PTI.

In a post on X, Digvijaya Singh said, "Congress workers, along with the mortal remains of Salman, are sitting at the Khajuraho police station with all three Congress candidates from Chhatarpur and thousands of activists. For five hours, we have requested the police to take action against the accused, but despite filing an FIR, the police are doing nothing. They are not even recording statements from eyewitnesses. The police are not seizing the belongings of the accused. The victim's family is not prepared to bury Salman's mortal remains without any action. We are forced to sit at the police station for justice.:

"I appeal to Congress workers across the state to unite against this atrocity against our worker. Raise your voice from wherever you are and compel the BJP-led government to ensure justice for our activists for the next few days," he stated.

Speaking to news agency PTI, the Congress leader said, "BJP candidates have attacked and murdered one of our Congress workers. The police have registered a case, but no arrests or vehicle seizures have been made so far. The promises they made have not been fulfilled. That's why we are peacefully protesting."

The Rajnagar constituency witnessed a clash between Congress's Kunwar Vikram Singh and BJP's Arvind Pateria. Salman Khan, a Congress supporter, died during this clash. In response, former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh visited Khajuraho, met the deceased's family, and initiated a sit-in at the police station.

Singh urged Congress workers across the state to unite against the alleged injustice, making a plea for justice for their party workers.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vikram Singh stated the case was being investigated and action would be taken accordingly, PTI reported.
