New Delhi: The Madhya Pradesh Congress on Sunday filed a police complaint over a letter that was allegedly made viral claiming senior party leader Digvijaya Singh had resigned after the party released the first list of its candidates for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh elections, news agency PTI reported.
Coming down heavily on the BJP, Singh took to X and wrote, “The BJP is good at speaking lies. I took membership of Congress in 1971 after being influenced by the party’s ideology and not for any post. I will be with the Congress till my last breath. I am getting a complaint registered with the police.”
The Congress leader also attached a copy of the “fake letter” with his social media post. The letter claimed the names suggested by Singh for party tickets were not considered.
The letter, addressed to the Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, reads, “My self-respect has been hurt as the dedicated workers have been cold-shouldered.”
“With a heavy heart I am announcing the decision to snap my connection with the party. I resign from the primary membership and all other posts. Please accept my resignation,” the letter further added.
Digvijaya Singh also shared on X a copy of the complaint letter submitted by the Congress to the cyber cell of Bhopal police. "@DGP_MP Sir, will you file an FIR against these liars," he wrote.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Singh said, “BJP indulges in fake works. I entered Congress in 1971 and I will be with the party till my last breath.”
It is to be noted that the Congress released its first list of 144 candidates, including Digvijaya Singh’s son and sitting legislator Jaivardhan Singh for the 230-member assembly polls. The elections will be held in a single phase on November 17.
The Congress nominated 69 sitting MLAs, including state unit chief Kamal Nath, in its first list of candidates.
