New Delhi: The counting for votes for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections is underway. As per early trends, BJP-led NDA seems like sweeping the Hindi heartland belt with major leads in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.
Out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP, trends are out for 55 seats in which BJP was in the driver's seats with their candidates leading in 40 seats. The SP-BSP-RLD Mahagathbandan was leading in 12 seats with the Congress leading in 2 seats.
Among all the early trends, the most notable is that of BJP's Smriti Irani who had a lead of over 2000 votes over Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Amethi. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi seemed to be in cruise mode in his seat and looks all set for a re-election to the Lok Sabha, leading by over 11000 votes in Varanasi.
Among the 42 seats in which BJP is leading, Prime Minister Modi had a considerable lead in Varanasi while Rajnath Singh was leading from Lucknow seat. Among the other major bigwigs, Rita Bahuguna from Allahabad seat, General VK Singh from Ghaziabad, Rajesh Agarwal from Meerut and Kunwar Sarvesh Singh from Moradabad were leading.
BJP's Ravi Kishan leading from Gorakhpur seat in Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile,some good news was coming for Congress party where Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi were leading from their traditional strongeholds in Amethi and Rae Bareli.As per last reports in, Rahul Gandhi and Smriti Irani were engaged in a neck to neck battle.The SP-BSP-RLD Mahagathbandhan dint seems to have much impact in the seats from where the trends were coming out.
Uttar Pradesh which contributed the highest number of seats to the parliament voted across seven phases in the Lok Sabha polls. The 2019 Lok Sabha took place across 542 constituencies across 7 phases from April 11 to May 19.
