Lok Sabha Election Results: Rajasthan, a state that sends 25 MPs to the Lok Sabha, witnessed a fierce battle between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections. The Congress went to the polls hoping to make inroads in the desert state, while on the other hand, the saffron party sought to repeat its assembly poll performance in the state.
Polling in the state was held in two phases. Rajasthan went to the polls during Phase 1 and Phase 2 on April 19 and 26.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the saffron party secured a clean sweep in the state, bagging 24 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats. During the polls, the BJP was confident it was repeating the same performance and storm back to power.
Lok Sabha Results: Key Candidates In Rajasthan
Ahead of the results of the Lok Sabha elections, take a look at the key candidates in fray:
1) Om Birla: In Kota, the BJP fielded Om Birla, who is set to lock horns with Congress candidate Prahlad Gunjal. Birla will take on Gunjal, who switched sides from the saffron party to Congress. Birla has been a two-time MLA and current MP since 2014, and he is looking to secure his third term in the lower house.
2) Kailash Choudhary: In Barmer, the saffron party pitted Union Minister Kailash Choudhary against independent Ravindra Bhati and Congress's Ummeda Ram Beniwal. Choudhary went to the polls seeking to retain the constituency.
3) Gajendra Singh Shekhawat: The Jodhpur Lok Sabha constituency will witness a crucial battle in the Lok Sabha elections. Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat eyes re-election against Congress's Karan Singh Uchiyarda.
4) Bhagirath Chaudhary: Ajmer is set to witness a dynamic contest between the BJP's Bhagirath Chaudhary and Congress's Ram Chandra Choudhary, as both the leaders who were pitted against each other come from the dominant Jat community. In 2019, the seat was bagged by saffron party's Bhagirath Chaudhary.
5) Arjun Ram Meghwal: In Bikaner, there will be a tough contest between the BJP and the grand old party. On the one hand, the saffron party fielded Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, while on the other hand, the Congress went with Madan Gopal Meghwal. In 2019, Arjun Ram Meghwal defeated Madan Gopal Meghwal and bagged the seat.
Lok Sabha Results: Voter Turnout In Rajasthan
The 12 seats that witnessed polling in the desert during the first phase saw a voter turnout of nearly 58 percent. While the remaining 13 seats recorded a turnout of nearly 64 percent, In the two phases of polling in the state, an overall voter turnout of around 62 percent was recorded.
