New Delhi: Satyadev Pachauri, the BJP MP representing the Kanpur Lok Sabha constituency, has conveyed his unwillingness to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In a letter addressed to the party's national president JP Nadda, Pachauri humbly expressed his current disinclination to vie for the Kanpur seat in the 2024 elections.
In his letter, penned in Hindi, Pachauri stated, "It is a humble request to you that at present I am not willing to contest on the Kanpur seat in 2024-Lok Sabha elections. Thus, my name should not be discussed. I am a faithful worker of the party and will continue to do the work given by the party.”
Pachauri also shared a copy of the signed letter on his official social media handle.
The BJP is yet to announce its candidate from the Kanpur constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Pachauri had previously contested from the same seat in 2019, succeeding BJP stalwart Murli Manohar Joshi, who emerged victorious in 2014.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, General VK Singh (Retd), took to X to announce that he will not be contesting in the forthcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024. Singh currently represents the Ghaziabad constituency in the Lok Sabha.
Earlier, BJP MP Jayant Sinha had made a request to the party leadership, seeking to be excused from electoral responsibilities. Sinha aims to direct his attention towards addressing issues related to climate change. Gautam Gambhir, a BJP leader and former cricketer, has similarly expressed his intention to step away from political duties in order to prioritise his forthcoming cricket engagements.
The BJP has so far released four lists of candidates. Notable among them are Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Kiren Rijiju, Tapir Gao, Rajeev Chandrashekhar, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Ajay Mishra Teni, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, and Nisith Pramanick, among others.
