New Delhi: A four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by the brother of her tuition teacher in Delhi, police said, adding one person has been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to police, the incident took place on Saturday at the residence of the tuition teacher located in Pandav Nagar, East Delhi. After the matter came to light, dozens of people assembled outside the accused's residence on Sunday to protest against the alleged rape. The demonstration turned violent as protesters resorted to damaging vehicles in the area, demanding swift justice for the victim.
According to police, the girl confided in her parents, and said that the brother of her teacher assaulted her during the teacher's absence, and threatened to keep silent about the ordeal.
In response to the escalating situation in the Pandav Nagar area, Delhi Police deployed its personnel to ensure law and order.
Police said they received a complaint regarding the alleged rape of a four-year-old girl by a 34-year-old man at her tuition centre. They registered a case and arrested the suspect. Despite initial rumours suggesting otherwise, police confirmed that they were actively investigating into the matter.
“Yesterday a complaint was received that a 4-year-old girl was raped by a 34-year-old man at the place where she goes for tuition. We have registered a case and the man was arrested. In this area, a rumour was spread that no actions were being taken so people gathered, we also got to know about some incidents of vandalism. Police reached the spot and now the situation is peaceful. The girl is also safe,” Delhi Eastern Range's Additional CP Sagar Singh Kalsi told ANI.
In a separate incident in Himachal Pradesh's Una district, a Class 6 girl was allegedly raped by the father of her classmate, PTI reported. Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh said the incident took place when the victim visited her classmate's residence.
Concerned by her prolonged absence, the victim's mother reached out to her, whereupon the girl recounted her ordeal. Upon learning, the mother, accompanied by her brother, registered a police complaint.
An FIR against the accused under sections of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences has been registered, police said, adding no arrest has been made so far, PTI reported.
