New Delhi: Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP on Wednesday announced fielding Sanjay Tandon as the party candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat of Chandigarh, replacing incumbent MP Kirron Kher.
Sanjay Tandon, BJP's co-in charge for Himachal Pradesh, expressed gratitude to party leadership for Chandigarh MP ticket ahead of the June 1 polls. Responding to the party fielding him from here, Tandon (59), who has also served as the Chandigarh BJP president for nearly a decade in the past, said, "It is a moment of great happiness for me".
He told PTI, "The party has given me an opportunity by nominating me as a candidate for the Lok Sabha polls from Chandigarh. I thank my party's leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president J P Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah". Outside his residence, the party supporters and other people gathered to congratulate him.
Sanjay Tandon, son of late Chhattisgarh governor Balramji Das Tandon, assured evryone to fulfill BJP's trust in him, vowing dedicated service to Chandigarh residents.
Tandon Vows To Serve Chandigarh
"I have been connected with people of Chandigarh for the last 40 years in one way or the other and I assure them I will not leave any stone unturned to serve them like a family member", he said.
In its 10th list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the BJP announced nominees for a total of nine constituencies. This list includes seven seats in Uttar Pradesh, as well as one each in Chandigarh and West Bengal. Notably, Kirron Kher, who first became a Member of Parliament from Chandigarh in 2014, has been selected once again as the party's candidate for the Chandigarh constituency.
