The nomination process for the seventh and the last phase of Lok Sabha elections has kickstarted on Tuesday. During the last phase, 57 seats will go for polling, including the key constiteuncy of Varanasi, represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.


The 57 parliamentary constituencies, going for polling in the seventh phase are spread over seven states and the union territory of Chandigarh.


The states that will be going to the poll in the last phase include: Bihar (eight constituencies), Jharkhand (three), Punjab (13), Uttar Pradesh (13), Himachal Pradesh (four), West Bengal (nine),Odisha (six), and Chandigarh (one constituency).


The notification for the nominations filing was issued by the Election Commission on behalf of the President starting the nomination process.


According to EC's notification, May 14 is the last date for making nominations. The nominations received by then will be scrutinised on while May 15, which has been appointed as the day for scrutiny of nominations. Candidates are allowed to withdraw their candidature from electoral battle till May 17. 


PM Modi To File Nomination On May 14


PM Modi on May 14 will file his nomination from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. He will visit his parliamentary constituency on May 13, where he will hold a massive roadshow and therafter file his nomination the next day. PM Modi won the Varanasi seat for the first time in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, wresting the seat from Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal bu a margin of 3,71,784 votes.


Subsequently, in the 2019 polls, PM Modi won the Varanasi seat by a margin of 4,79,505 votes against Samajwadi Party's Shalini Yadav and Congress' Ajay Rai.


In Lok Sabha elections 2024, PM Modi will be competing against Congress' Uttar Pradesh chief Ajay Rai and BSP's Athar Jamal Lari.


In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, voting was held across seven phases from April 11 to May 19, and the results were declared on May 23, 2019. BJP attained a massive victory by winning 303 seats, improving its 2014 figures of 282 seats.
