Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a poll rally in Damoh in Madhya Pradesh on Friday, a BJP leader said. The rally will be held amid the first phase of Lok Sabha polls nationwide, including on six seats in the state.
"The PM will address a public meeting in Damoh tomorrow afternoon," MP BJP media department chief Ashish Agrawal told PTI on Thursday. Damoh, which is part of the state's Bundelkhand region and shares a border with Jabalpur, will vote on April 26.
Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni on Thursday filed nomination papers from Kheri Lok Sabha seat on the first day of the nominations for the fourth phase of election. An Independent candidate, Naresh Singh Bhadauriya, also filed nominations from Kheri seat during the day.
Teni reached the collectorate alongwith BJP district president Sunil Singh, Lakhimpur BJP MLA Yogesh Verma and others to submit his nomination papers to the returning officer. Election on this seat will be held on May 13.
Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati urged people to exercise their franchise in elections to the lone Lok Sabha seat on Friday. Calling elections a "festival of democracy", he appealed to the people, especially first-time voters, to participate in it. He expressed hope that Mizoram will witness a good turnout on Friday.
"Mizoram has a high literacy rate as compared to other states. People are aware of their rights and responsibilities. I hope people will come out in large numbers and participate in the voting process," Kambhampati said on Thursday, as quoted by PTI.
Tight security arrangements have been put in place for the first of the two-phased Lok Sabha elections in Manipur, which had been rocked by ethnic violence over the last one year, officials said on Thursday.
The Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat, which comprises 32 of the 60 assembly segments in the state, and 15 assembly segments of the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat will go to polls in the first phase on Friday. Voting will be held in the remaining 13 segments of Outer Manipur in the second phase on April 26.
Voting will commence at 7 am across 2,107 polling stations, of which 645 will be managed by all-woman polling personnel, and is likely to continue till 4 pm.

Amit Shah To Hold Roadshows, Rally In Gandhinagar Today
Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat Amit Shah will be holding back-to-back three roadshows and address a rally in the constituency on Thursday (April 18) before filing his nomination the next day.
"Home Minister Shah will hold his first roadshow in Sanand town of Ahmedabad district and the second one in Kalol town of Gandhinagar district. His third roadshow will be in Ahmedabad city covering areas like Ghatlodia, Naranpura and Vejalpur," state BJP spokesperson Yagnesh Dave was quoted as saying by PTI.
The senior BJP leader, seeking re-election from the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency for a second term, will file his nomination papers on Friday the report said.
Notably, the constituency consists of seven assembly segments -- Gandhinagar North, Kalol, Sanand, Ghatlodiya, Vejalpur, Naranpura and Sabarmati. Ghatlodiya, Vejalpur, Naranpura, and Sabarmati are located in Ahmedabad city but fall in the parliamentary seat.
He will address an election rally in the Vejalpur area of Ahmedabad city after holding the roadshows, as per the report.
Supriya Sule, Sunetra Pawar To File Nominations Today
Mahayuti alliance candidate Sunetra Pawar and her sister-in-law and NCP (SP) candidate Supriya Sule will file their nominations for the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency in the district on Thursday with a show of strength, news agency PTI reported.
