Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced a hike in the salaries of Asha and Anganwadi workers in the state ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.


The salaries for both Asha and Anganwadi workers has been increased by Rupees 750 with effect from Aoril 1, announced the Chief Minister. The salary for Integrated Child Development Services helpers, who get around Rs 6,000 will also be recieve a hike in thier pay of Rupees 500 from April 1, she added. 


"The salaries of Asha workers have been increased by Rs 750 from April. They are our pride as they work very hard. They support us in all the bad times. I am happy to announce that the salaries of Anganwadi workers have also been increased by Rs 750 from April," Banerjee said in a video message on Wednesday. 






"The ICDS helpers get about Rs 6,000, their salaries will be increased by Rs 500 from April 1. I hope they do well in life. 'Maa Maati Maanush' government shall always be with the people," she added 


Reacting to the development later in the day, the Bharatiya Janata Party termed it as "bribe" before elections.

"Mamata Banerjee gives bribe right before elections to get votes. After two months, she will say we don't have money so we are stopping this scheme," said BJP MP Dilip Ghosh while speaking to news agency ANI.


"People of the state are facing troubles. Neither there is women's security nor employment/education/health services. People want to get rid of Mamata Banerjee...," he added.
