Referring to the arrest of the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar stated on Friday that the state could also witness a similar scene, just like the one witnessed in the national capital on Thursday evening. Following his statement, the Trinamool National Congress hit out at BJP stating that the remark reflected the saffron party's fear of losing the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024.
The Enforcement Directorate, on Thursday, arrested AAP national convenor and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in connection with an excise policy-linked money-laundering case. He was questioned for two hours at his residence in Delhi after which the ED sleuths apprehended him.

"Last month, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemmant Soren was arrested. Now, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested. It only shows that being a chief minister doesn't grant you any sort of impunity if you are involved in corruption. Similar allegations of corruption have emerged in West Bengal in recent years. So, the state could also witness similar scenes like New Delhi," PTI quoted Majumdar saying.
TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh alleged that the BJP was using central agencies to terrorise the opposition parties. He claimed that the BJP has become "desperate to hold onto power either by hook or crook."
"The arrest of Arvind Kejriwal hints at it. Secondly, in Bengal too, the BJP is using central agencies to pursue political vendetta," he added.
Meanwhile, State Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury claimed that West Bengal will never witness similar scenes as both BJP and TMC have a tacit understanding. He made these claims despite the corruption allegations against the TMC government, PTI reported.
"It is due to this tacit understanding that the TMC walked out of the opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc in West Bengal, and decided to contest alone," Ghosh alleged.
