Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Sangma's brother Zenith Sangma is set to contest from the Parliamentary Constituency of Tura seat in Meghalaya for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the party said on Tuesday. In 2023, Sangma faced defeat against National People's Party (NPP) candidate Subhir Marak from the Rangsakona constituency in the Meghalaya assembly election.

In a post on X, TMC said, "AITC under the guidance and inspiration of Hon’ble Chairperson Smt. @MamataOfficial, we are pleased to announce the @AITC4Meghalaya candidate from the Parliamentary Constituency of Tura (ST) seat".

Last month, the Congress announced its candidates for Meghalaya's two Lok Sabha seats. The party has fielded sitting MP Vincent Pala from Shillong, while Saleng A. Sangma will contest the Tura Lok Sabha seat. The ruling National People’s Party (NPP) declared its candidates in December last year, fielding Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh against Pala and sitting memer Agatha Sangma from Tura.

On Sunday, the TMC announced the candidate list for all 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, naming Yusuf Pathan, Kriti Azad, Haji Nurul Islam, and Mahua Moitra among others.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's party retained 16 out of 23 sitting MPs in the state, while dropping some of the candidates including Nusrat Jahan and BJP defector Arjun Singh. TMC made the candidate announcement for all the seats in Bengal, leaving no room for the I.N.D.I.A. ally Congress.

During its Jonogorjon Sabha at Kolkata's Brigade Ground, TMC announced its list of 42 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The Sunday announcement by TMC comes after its chief Mamata Banerjee said in January this year that the party will contest the polls "alone". Taking a dig at Congress, the West Bengal Chief Minister said that she had no discussions with them regarding seat sharing in the state.
