PM Modi Cautions Against Fake AI Videos Of BJP Leaders, Says ‘Conspiracy Hatched To Create Tension’

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: PM Modi has warned against fake videos targeting him and other BJP leaders such as Home Minister Amit Shah, blaming political opponents for misusing technology to spread false narratives.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued a stern warning against the circulation of fake videos featuring his voice, cautioning that such deceptive practices pose a significant threat. Speaking at election events in Karnataka and Maharashtra on Monday, PM Modi attributed the dissemination of these fabricated videos to political opponents. He highlighted the misuse of technology and artificial intelligence to propagate false narratives on social media platforms.

"These days, these people are misusing technology to create fake videos. By misusing AI, they are putting such rubbish things in my voice that a great danger is arising. I appeal to my fellow citizens that if you come across any fake video, inform the police and our party. Legal action will be taken, and they will be taught a lesson," he told a gathering in 

"The law of this country does not permit playing such games with anyone. During the elections in Madhya Pradesh, there were fake reports circulating in Amitabh Bachchan's voice and he had to lodge an FIR. These people have escalated this game in frustration and disappointment, so we need to stay vigilant. Don't trust any fake things that come your way," he added.

The Prime Minister went on to issue a similar warning in Maharashtra's Satara where he said, "In the voices of our party leaders, by using Artificial Intelligence, sometimes in my voice, sometimes in Amit Shah or Nadda's voice, and sometimes in our CMs' voices, such statements that we have never even thought of are being spread through our fake voices, they're trying to lit fire. Using such videos, a conspiracy is being hatched to create tension in society. Their intentions won't come true if elections happen peacefully and therefore in the coming days, they're trying to do something big in the country..."

Delhi Police Notice To Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Over Doctored Videos Of Union Home Minister Amit Shah: Report

The remarks come as the Delhi Police has taken action following a complaint filed by the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding doctored videos of Union Home Minister Amit Shah circulating on social media platforms. An FIR has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.

According to sources, the police have also issued notice to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The police have issued notices to five members of the Telangana Congress, including its chief Reddy, who posted the video on X.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on X that an accused has been arrested in connection with Amit Shah's fake video. The arrested accused is 31-year-old Reetom Singh who is associated with the Assam Congress and functions as the party's 'War Room Coordinator', as per his X profile.

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police had on Sunday registered an FIR after the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), which is under the Ministry of Home Affairs, filed a complaint about the doctored video of Shah,.

The fake videos twisted Amit Shah's remarks where he was indicating a commitment to abolish the quota for Muslims on religious grounds in Telangana to make it seem that he was supporting the scrapping of all reservations.
