New Delhi: With the parties across the political spectrum already in campaign mode, the Election Commission (EC) on Saturday announced the dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.


At a press briefing in the national capital, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said polling for Lok Sabha seats would be held from April 19 to June 1 across 7 phases.


Counting of votes will take place on June 4.


Sharing details of the poll schedule, the CEC said voting in the fifth phase will be held across 49 constituencies in 8 states and 1 Union Territory on May 20.

The states to witness polling in the fifth phase include Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Maharashtra, and UTs of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. UP, West Bengal and Bihar will see polling across all seven phases, the CEC informed.

It is to be noted that the Election Commission stated that there are approximately 1.82 crore voters aged between 18 and 19 years, and about 19.74 crore voters aged between 20 and 29 years. The EC also announced that approximately 96.88 crore registered voters will participate in the upcoming general elections, with approximately 47.15 crore of them being women.
