BJP's Lok Sabha Candidate List For Telangana Feature 5 Names Previously Associated With BRS
Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in its first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, included nine names for Telangana. Notably, five of these candidates - Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, Eatala Rajender, Boora Narsaiah Goud, Pothuganti Bharat, and BB Patil - have previous associations with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
Despite winning nine Lok Sabha seats in 2019, the BRS faced defections from five sitting MPs who joined other parties after the party's loss in the State Assembly polls held in November last year. Additionally, one MP, Kotha Prabhakar Reddy from Medak, was elected as an MLA from the Dubbak constituency.
Among the defectors, BRS MP Gaddam Ranjith Reddy joined the Congress, while Zahirabad MP BB Patil and Nagarkurnool (SC) MP Pothuganti Ramulu switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Warangal (SC) MP Pasunuri Dayakar and Peddapalli (SC) MP Borlakunta Venkatesh Netha also left the party to join the Congress.
In response, the BRS leadership has renominated Nama Nageswara Rao, Maloth Kavitha, and Manne Srinivas Reddy from their respective sitting seats of Khammam, Mahabubabad, and Mahabubnagar.
Additionally, the BRS has chosen two former bureaucrats, R.S. Praveen Kumar and P. Venkatrami Reddy, as MP candidates. Former president of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)-Telangana and former IPS R.S. Praveen Kumar, who recently joined BRS, has been named as the candidate for the Nagarkurnool (SC) MP seat. Meanwhile, former IAS officer and MLC P. Venkatarami Reddy will contest from the Medak Parliamentary Constituency.
The general election in Telangana is scheduled to be held on May 13 to elect 17 members of the 18th Lok Sabha.
