The Bharatiya Janata Party suffered a jolt on Tuesday in Bihar after its MP from Muzaffarpur, Ajay Nishad quit the party and switched sides with Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Nishad was inducted into the Congress at party headquarters in Delhi in the presence of senior party leader Pawan Khera.
"I want to break someone's arrogance and regain my lost respect," he said as the BJP did not give him a ticket for the upcoming polls.
"A person on a death row is also asked for his last wish...you (BJP) cancelled my ticket and didnt even ask me once. I came to know through media that I haven't been given the ticket. This is not correct," he added.
Earlier in the day, he said he resigned from the BJP after he was "shocked" by the "betrayal" from the saffron party.
"Respected @JPNadda ji, shocked by the betrayal of @BJP4India, I resign from all posts and primary membership of the party," he said in a post on X.
The speculation about him snapping ties with BJP began after he dropped the 'Modi Ka Parivaar' tag from his name on social media platform X.
Upset for not being fielded by the saffron party from Muzaffarpur, the Congress could reward him with a ticket from the seat, which he had won for the consecutive two terms since 2014, as per an ABP News report.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Nishad defeated Congress party's Bihar unit chief Akhilesh Prasad Singh with a margin of around 2,22,000 votes.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Nishad won the seat once again by defeating Mukesh Sahani's Vikassheel Insan Party candidate Raj Bhushan Choudhary Nishad, who has been given the ticket from Muzaffarpur for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls by the BJP.
