Ajay Nishad, BJP's MP from Muzaffarpur, has resigned from all posts and primary membership of the party ahead of polls. He was reportedly miffed with the party after he was denied a ticket. He said in a post on X, "Respected @JPNadda ji, shocked by the betrayal of @BJP4India, I resign from all posts and primary membership of the party."

Speculation is rife that he may jump ship to the Congress and may get a ticket from the party to contest the upcoming election. He has been the MP from Muzaffarpur since 2014. Before his resignation, he removed the 'Modi Ka Parivar' tag from his X account.

In 2014, he defeated the current Bihar chief of Congress, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, by around 2 lakh 22 thousand votes. In 2019, Ajay Nishad defeated Mukesh Sahni's party candidate Raj Bhushan Chaudhary Nishad. However, this time BJP has picked Raj Bhushan Chaudhary Nishad from the seat.

Soon after his resignation, Nishad joined the Congress and vowed to strengthen the party in Bihar stating that his aim was to the "arrogance of someone".

"Even a person condemned to the gallows is given a final wish but I was not even told once before my ticket was cut," he said.

He joined hands with the grand old party at the Congress headquarters in the presence of Bihar Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh, AICC in-charge of state Mohan Prakash, party Kishanganj MP Mohammad Javed. AICC head of media and publicity department Pawan Khera was also present at the event.

Thanking the Congress leadership, he said this election would not be of the 'dhanbal (money power) but of 'janta ka bal (people's might)'.

This comes as the BJP seems confident of winning more than 400 seats for the NDA alliance in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated to be held in seven phases from April 19 and the result will be declared on June 4.
