Rebel BJP leader Eshwarappa is set to file nominations for Shivamogga Lok Sabha seat on Friday. Eshwarappa asserted he would file his nomination for the Lok Sabha elections in the wake of speculation that he would back off from contesting the polls. He has expressed confidence that he would get an overwhelming response during the election.


According to ANI, former Deputy CM and rebel BJP leader K S Eshwarappa said he will file his nomination papers as an independent candidate from Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency on Friday. He said, "I will contest the elections as an independent candidate and will win. The public and workers are with me and after winning I will go to PM Modi..."

BJP has fielded former CM and party leader BS Yediyurappa's son BY Raghavendra from the Shivamogga Lok Sabha seat.

Earlier, BJP moved Election Commission to ensure that the saffron-party leader does not use the photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during election campaign. The BJP also urged EC to initiate strict action against Eshwarappa. 


Eshwarappa rebelled against the party after BJP refused to grant a ticket to K E Kantesh, the son of senior leader Eshwarappa, for the Haveri Lok Sabha seat.


The BJP had selected former Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai to run in Haveri on their ticket. Eshwarappa accused BS Yediyurappa of breaking a promise to give his son a ticket.


Karnataka will vote for Lok Sabha elections on April 26.
