Karnataka Elections: Surprising Result Will Come, BJP Will Get Complete Majority, Says CM Bommai

Talking to reporters, Karnataka CM Basvaraj Bommai said that BJP will get a complete majority in the upcoming elections.

Karnataka Elections 2023: Ahead of an intense political battle in Karnataka next month, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has claimed that the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) will get a complete majority in the upcoming elections. Talking to reporters, he said that workers and leaders of the party are confident that BJP will emerge victorious in the polls.

"There will be a complete majority for BJP. A surprising result will come in some constituencies. Workers and leaders have confidence," the Karnataka CM said, as quoted by ANI.

Earlier, Halady Srinivas Shetty who is a BJP leader and five-time MLA from Kundapura constituency in Udupi district has indicated to his confidantes that he will not contest for the upcoming Assembly elections, as per PTI.

Party sources said on Monday, that Shetty will soon take a call with regard to his candidature and his future in politics. They said that a popular leader in Udupi district is contemplating political retirement and that his rider would likely be his close aide Kiran Kumar Kodgi, who would be given the ticket from Kundapur to contest on a BJP ticket.

Shetty is likely to announce the decision on his political career at a press conference on Tuesday, according to PTI sources.

Furthermore, Congress Central Election Committee meeting regarding the upcoming Karnataka Assembly Elections took place on Tuesday at the AICC office in Delhi. The party had announced candidates on 124 seats earlier. In the meeting, a discussion was held regarding the rest of the seats. The grand old party is likely to release the second list of candidates by Tuesday evening or night. About 50 or more names are likely to be cleared in the second list today.

Before the meeting Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge spoke to media persons about the meeting and said that the committee will unanimously decide and choose candidates who can win or at least give competition to other parties.

Karnataka, which has 224 seats in the Assembly currently has 119 MLAs of the ruling BJP, while Congress has 75 and its ally JD(S) has 28 seats. The polling would take place in a single phase on May 10, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said on Wednesday.
The counting of votes will be done on May 13, the CEC said in a press conference here.
