Kantilal Amrutiya has previously won the Morbi assembly seat in 1995, 1998, 2002, 2007, and 2012. For the 2022 Gujarat Assembly Elections, he was once again entrusted by BJP who sidelined the sitting BJP MLA from Morbi, Brijesh Merja. Kantilal caught the public attention by jumping into the Machchhu river to rescue the victims of the suspension bridge which collapsed in Morbi on October 30, killing 135 people.
