Jharkhand Election Results 2024: The Soren family has solidified its political dominance in Jharkhand, with three of its members securing victories in the recently concluded assembly elections. Hemant Soren, Kalpana Soren, and Basant Soren emerged triumphant, while Sita Soren, who contested on a BJP ticket, was the only family member to face defeat.
Jharkhand Election Results 2024: Hemant Soren Creates History With Consecutive Win
Chief Minister Hemant Soren made history by winning the Barhait constituency for the third consecutive time. Soren defeated BJP’s Gamliyel Hembrom by a margin of 39,791 votes, securing 95,612 votes compared to Hembrom’s 55,821, according to the Election Commission of India.
Expressing gratitude for the public’s support, Hemant Soren remarked, “We have passed the exam of democracy in Jharkhand; we will finalise our strategy after the election results. I express my gratitude to the people for this stupendous performance”, as quoted by news agency PTI. He also stated that Jharkhand is set to script “Abua Raj, Abua Sarkar” (own state, own government).
Jharkhand Election Results 2024: Kalpana Soren Wins In Gandey
Kalpana Soren, Hemant Soren’s wife, secured a significant victory in the Gandey assembly constituency by 17,142 votes. Despite trailing behind BJP’s Munniya Devi in the early rounds, Kalpana staged a strong comeback to emerge victorious.
Kalpana’s win further cements her growing influence in Jharkhand politics, following her earlier entry into the political arena through the Gandey byelection after Hemant Soren’s legal troubles.
Jharkhand Election Results 2024: Basant Soren Retains Dumka
Basant Soren, Hemant Soren’s younger brother, retained the Dumka seat by defeating BJP’s Sunil Soren by 14,588 votes. Basant secured 95,685 votes, while Sunil garnered 81,097 votes. Dumka, considered a stronghold of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has been a family bastion, with Hemant Soren having won the seat in 2019 before vacating it for Basant.
Jharkhand Election Results 2024: Sita Soren Suffers Defeat In Jamtara
In contrast to the other Soren family members, Sita Soren, the sister-in-law of Hemant Soren, faced defeat in Jamtara. Contesting on a BJP ticket, she lost to Congress leader Irfan Ansari by a margin of 43,676 votes. Ansari, a two-time winner and son of veteran Congress leader Furkan Ansari, maintained a stronghold in the constituency, which has a significant population of Muslims and tribals.
Sita Soren had earlier defected from the JMM to join the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Her defeat in Jamtara marks her second electoral loss after being defeated by JMM’s Nalin Soren in Dumka during the Lok Sabha polls.
With this poll outcome, the Soren family’s dominance in Jharkhand politics continues, with Hemant Soren set to return as Chief Minister.
