New Delhi: Suspecting the clean chit to Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi in an illegal sand mining case, his Delhi counterpart and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said his party’s chief ministerial candidate Bhagwant Mann will do a fair investigation into the matter after taking charge of the top post in the state.

Kejriwal questioned as to why the Enforcement Directorate has not yet arrested Channi when his relative has confessed that all the money belongs to him.

“Channi Sahab did an investigation on himself, when Bhagwant Mann will become CM, he will do a fair investigation on sand mining,” he said in Amritsar, ANI reported.

Escalating his attack, Kejriwal said the Congress party has “become a circus” in Punjab.

“Channi Sahab is going to lose from both assembly constituencies. AAP is going to defeat him. He will never be the CM when he can't be an MLA,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Channi called Kejriwal a “liar” as he tried to level several allegations against him.

“They complained to the Governor (against me), he ordered an inquiry. Truth prevails,” he said after getting a clean chit in an illegal sand mining case from the Ropar district administration.

Earlier on Friday, the Punjab Chief Minister’s nephew Bhupinder Singh alias Honey was sent to 14-day judicial custody in an illegal sand mining case.

The Enforcement Directorate officials arrested Channi’s nephew earlier on February 3 as part of the money laundering probe into the alleged sand mining operations in Punjab.

Voting for the Punjab Assembly will be held in a single phase on February 14. The results will be declared on March 10.
