'Analysing The Unexpected Results': Rahul Gandhi In First Comments On Haryana Poll Debacle

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday made his first comments on the party's poor performance in the Haryana Assembly elections, the results of which were announced on Tuesday.

Rahul said the party was analysing the "unexpected" results in the state, where exit polls predicted a majority for the party. "We are analysing the unexpected results of Haryana. We will inform the Election Commission about the complaints coming from many assembly constituencies. Heartfelt thanks to all the people of Haryana for their support and to our Babbar Sher workers for their tireless hard work," he wrote on X.

He also thanked the people of Jammu and Kashmir, where Congress fought the election in alliance with the National Conference. The alliance won 49 of the 90 seats in the assembly. "My heartfelt thanks to the people of Jammu and Kashmir - India's victory in the state is a victory of the Constitution, a victory of democratic self-respect," he tweeted.

"We will continue this fight for rights, for social and economic justice, for truth, and will keep raising your voice," he added. Congress's dependence on the Jat voters, who comprise 27 per cent of the state's voters, and infighting have likely impacted its performance in Haryana.

While addressing party workers and supporters at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday, PM Narendra Modi criticised the Congress for its "negative" politics. "Conspiracies are being hatched globally to weaken India’s economy, democracy, and society. Congress and its cronies part of this game," PM Modi said.
