Background

Haryana Political Crisis Highlights: Please follow this space for all the latest news on the Haryana political crisis. A new political crisis unfolded in Haryana on Tuesday after speculations were rife that cracks were emerging  in the state's ruling BJP and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) coalition over seat sharing ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Hours after Manohar Lal Khattar along with his cabinet resigned from their positions, BJP leader Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday was sworn-in as Haryana's new Chief Minister.

Apart from Saini, BJP leaders Moolchand Sharma and Kanwar Pal Gujjar and Independent MLA Ranjit Singh also took oath as ministers in the Haryana cabinet.

Manohar Lal Khattar resigned on Tuesday, citing apparent fissures in the ruling coalition of the BJP and the Jannayak Janata Party. Khattar submitted his resignation to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya at Raj Bhawan ahead of the BJP's legislative party meeting.

JJP chief Dushyant Chautala was scheduled to meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah after which it was being expected that JJP would back out of the ruling NDA alliance in the state.

But earlier in the day, the alliance broke off and Chief Minister Manohal Lal Khattar along with his cabinet submitted their resignations to state Governor Bandaru Dattatreya.

"CM and cabinet ministers have resigned and the Governor has accepted the resignations," BJP leader Kanwar Pal Singh told the media.

The commotion comes just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls as the two parties failed to reach a deal on seat-sharing in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party won all the 10 seats while Dushyant Chautala won the Hisar seat in 2014.

The crack between the alliance came under spotlight after JJP chief Dushyant Chautala announced that his party was fully prepared to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections solo.

The Haryana cabinet consisted of 14 ministers including Khattar and three members of he Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala-led Jannayak Janata Party. All of these cabinet members submitted their resignation.
