Congress Lost 9 Seats In Haryana By A Margin Of Less Than 6,000 Votes, EC Data Shows

Haryana result: The election result data also suggested that smaller parties like INLD and JJP, and Independent candidates end up hurting Congress' chances in these seats.

The BJP on Tuesday headed for a comfortable win in Haryana after leading on 48 seats in the 90-member assembly. Though the BJP had a wide margin against Congress in terms of seats, the vote share between the two parties was razor-thin.

While the saffron party received 39.94 per cent votes, the Congress managed to get 39.09 per cent votes in the assembly polls. The contrast between the gap in seats and vote share was evident on some seats, where the victory margin between the winner and runner-up was thin. 

In 8 out of 90 seats in Haryana where the BJP won against Congress candidates, the victory margin was less than 6,000 votes, an assessment of the Election Commission data showed. While in one seat (Dabwali), the INLD candidate won against Congress with a margin of 610 votes. The election result data also suggested that smaller parties like INLD and JJP, and Independent candidates end up hurting Congress' chances in these seats.

In the Uchana Kalan seat in Haryana, BJP's Devender Chatar Bhuj Attri defeated Congress candidate Brijendra Singh by just 32 votes. While two independents managed to get over 13,000 and 31,000 votes, Jannayak Janta Party's (JJP) Dushyant Chautala was at the fifth spot.

In Dadri, BJP's Sunil Satpal Sangwan defeated the Congress candidate Manisha Sangwan with a margin of 1,957 votes. While the JJP candidate got 1,917 votes, the AAP candidate got 1,339 votes.

Yoginder Singh Rana of the BJP won against Shamsher Singh Gogi of the Congress by a margin of 2,306 votes in Assandh. Meanwhile, in Gharaunda, BJP's Harvinder Kalyan won against Congress' Varinder Singh Rathore with a margin of 4,531.

BJP's Harinder Singh won the Hodal seat against Udai Bhan of the Congress by a margin of 2,595 votes. In Kharkhauda seat, Pawan Kharkhoda won against Jaiveer Singh by a margin of 5,635 votes. 

In Mahendragarh, which is around 100 kms from Gurugram, Kanwar Singh defeated Rao Dan Singh by a margin of 2,648 votes. Congress candidate Subhash Gangoli lost in Safidon against BJP's Ram Kumar Gautam by a margin of 4,037 votes.

In Gohana, the margin between the BJP and Congress candidates was above 10,000. Arvind Kumar Sharma of the BJP got 57,055 votes against Congress candidate Jagbir Singh Malik who got 46,626 votes, while the margin was 10,429.

In a similar contest, Indian National Lok Dal candidate Aditya Devilal won against Amit Sihag of the Congress in Dabwali with a margin of 610 votes. 

'Spoilers' Ruined Congress's Chances In 17 Seats

In the assembly election results that concluded on Tuesday evening, Congress finished second in 45 seats. In 17 out of the 45 seats, the Congress lost because of spoilers like independent candidates and smaller parties. The Independents finished third in 12 constituences, the INLD in 3 seats and the BSP and JJP in one seat each.

On the other hand, Congress party's Mamman Khan won the Ferozepur Jhirka seat in Nuh district with the highest margin of 98,441 votes. Mamman Khan, the sitting MLA from Jhirka, defeated BJP's Naseem Ahmed. Khan polled 1,30,497 votes while his nearest rival got 32,056 votes.  

Meanwhile, Congress party's Rajbir Fartia defeated BJP's senior leader Jai Parkash Dalal in Loharu seat by 792 votes. The grand-old-party's Chander Mohan defeated BJP senior leader and Haryana speaker Gian Chand Gupta from the Panchkula seat by a margin of 1,997 votes.
