Haryana Assembly Elections: The Election Commission of India has halted the result announcement of the ongoing recruitment process in Haryana until the completion of Assembly elections in the state.

The decision was taken by the poll body after it took cognizance of the complaint received from Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh. The Congress leader had flagged in his complaint that the Model Code of Conduct would be violated in the process of recruitment against 5600 vacancies for the post of Constable in the Haryana Police, 76 posts of TGT and PTI by Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) and recruitment for various posts by Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC).

In view of Jairam Ramesh's complaint, the poll body directed the Haryana government for a detailed report in the matter.

As per Election Commission's MCC instructions, the continuing regular recruitment process or promotion through the UPSC, the state public service commission or the staff selection commission or any other statutory authority is not barred. But they do state that recruitments carried out through non-statutory bodies need prior clearance of the commission.

After ascertaining the facts from the state government and considering the existing MCC instructions, EC did not find any violation of MCC in the ongoing recruitment process by HSSC and HPSC.

The poll body discovered that the recruitment process was initiated much before the announcement of assembly elections and that it is within the existing MCC instructions, where statutory authorities can continue their work.

However, in order to ensure that no undue advantage is accrued to anyone and the level playing field is maintained, the Election Commission has directed that announcement of the results of the ongoing recruitment by the authorities concerned (HSSC and HPSC) will not be released till the completion of assembly polls in Haryana.

The assembly elections in Haryana will be held in a single phase on October 1 and results will be declared on October 4.
