New Delhi: The Lok sabha general election 2024 in Gujarat, which went to polls in a single phase on May 7, is the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Polling took place across 25 of the 26 seats in Gujarat.
Interestingly, the lone seat of Surat was secured by the BJP without contest as eight out of nine eligible candidates withdrew their nominations from the constituency. This decision left BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal declared as the winner unopposed.
Gujarat has long been a stronghold of the BJP, and exit polls have once again predicted a clean sweep for the saffron party.
Some heavyweight candidates who contested the polls this time included Amit Shah from Gandhinagar, Union Minister Parshottam Rupala from Rajkot, AAP's Chaitar Vasava from Dediapada, Mansukh Mandaviya from Porbandar, and BJP state chief CR Patil from Navsari.
