Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah claiming that the BJP government captured institutions like ED, CBI and Income Tax.
Rahul Gandhi called the Tuesday mandate as the moral defeat of PM Modi and said that the BJP has not got a full majority.
"This is a moral defeat of Narendra Modi. The mandate of the people is against PM Modi. The BJP has not got full majority," the Congress MP said.
On the question of INDIA alliance reaching out to parties for a possible government formation, Rahul Gandhi said, "We have a meeting with partners tomorrow and these questions will be raised there. We respect our alliance partners and we will not make any announcements in the press without asking them and their opinions."
Rahul Gandhi also lauded the people of UP, who gave a decisive mandate to the SP-Congress alliance in the state, saying "The peope of UP did wonders this elections."
"UP ki janta ne kamaal karke dikha diya... The people of UP understood the politics of the country and the danger to the Constitution, and they safeguarded the Constitution. I thank them for supporting Congress party and INDIA alliance," Rahul Gandhi said in the press conference.
The Congress leader thanked the voters for electing him from Rae Bareli and Wayanad.
"I have won from Rae Bareli and Wayanad and I thank the voters. I need to decide which seat I will retain. I haven't decided yet," Rahul Gandhi said.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who was also present at the press conference, said the outcome of the Lok Sabha elections was a mandate against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a political and moral defeat for him.
The Congress chief termed the results as victory of the people and of democracy. The BJP-led NDA was ahead in over 293 seats, while the opposition INDIA bloc was leading in 232 parliamentary seats.
Kharge said Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra reached out to lakhs of people and supported the election campaign.
