Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) P Bharathi on Saturday appealed to the urban population of the state to come out in large numbers and cast their vote in the second phase Gujarat elections to be held on December 5, Monday, reported news agency ANI.
According to the Election Commission, a voter turnout of 63.31 per cent was recorded in the first phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections held on December 1, in 89 constituencies spread across 19 Kutch, Saurashtra and South Gujarat districts.
The turnout was lower than the 66.75 per cent recorded in the first phase in the same 89 constituencies in the 2017 state elections, reported PTI.
The highest number of voter turnout was recorded from Dediapada in Narmada district with 82.71 per cent voting, followed by Kaprada in Valsad district which had a turnout of 79.57 per cent. While Gandhidham in Kutch district recorded the lowest turnout of 47.86 per cent, the news agency reported.
A special drive had been carried out by the office of the state Chief Electoral Officer P Bharathi to encourage voters to exercise their franchise.
In 2017, the final voter turnout (for both the phases of elections) was 68.41 per cent.
The second phase of 2022 elections for remaining 93 seats will be held on December 5, and votes will be counted on December 8.
Total number of candidates in second phase of Gujarat Assembly elections is 833, political parties-61, polling locations-14,975, polling stations-26,409 and polling staff-1,13,325.
