New Delhi: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to amp up its Gujarat Election campaign with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to hold close to 25 rallies within three days.

According to news agency ANI, PM Modi's aggressive poll campaign in his home state begins Saturday evening as he will be addressing a rally in Valsad upon his arrival.

On Sunday, the former Gujarat chief minister will visit Somnath Temple and address four rallies in the Saurashtra region. The rallies will take place in Veraval, Dhorarji, Amreli, and Botad, ANI reported. This region assumed importance for the ruling party as despite winning the previous polls, the BJP was not able to win a single seat here, a Congress stronghold.

After this, PM Modi will hold three rallies in Surendranagar, Bharuch, and Navsari on Monday.

As per ANI's report, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda are expected to hold more than 15 rallies in the poll-bound state.

Previously, the BJP announced a star campaigner list of 40 leaders including the chief ministers of the BJP-ruled states who are expected to campaign for 2-3 days, holding at least 2-3 rallies.

In the 2017 Gujarat Election, the BJP won 99 seats out of a total of 182 seats. The ruling party is now aiming to exceed 140-mark in the upcoming polls.

The state has been a BJP stronghold as it has retained power for the last 27 years with Narendra Modi being the longest-serving chief minister of the state.

Gujarat will witness polling in two phases on December 1 and 5. The counting of votes for both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh will take place on December 8.
