New Delhi: Congress leader Harish Rawat said that his party will form a government in Uttarakhand and he will request the party president Sonia Gandhi to choose a CM face for the state.

Talking to the reporters, Rawat said, “Congress party is going to form the government in Uttarakhand. People have voted for development. This development (voting) has happened in favour of Congress. Knowing this, the Bharatiya Janata Party is tense and anxious. It clearly shows that BJP is going to lose elections in the state.”

He added, “We will request our party president Sonia Gandhi to decide the CM. Our CM face will be the one whom people want (Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Mann Bhave).”

Earlier Rawat had claimed that nobody in Congress had any objection to his name as the chief ministerial candidate.

While Congress has contested the Uttarakhand polls under the leadership of Harish Rawat, he is still not announced as the official CM face for the party.

Rawat has been the CM of Uttarakhand in the past and has contested from the Lalkuan constituency in Nainital. He contested from Lalkuan for the first time. Earlier, he has served as an MP in Rajya Sabha as well as Lok Sabha.

The major contender against Congress in Uttarakhand is BJP, which is also the incumbent government in the state. The current CM of Uttarakhand is Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Assembly elections in Uttarakhand for 70 constituencies took place on February 14. The results of the assembly elections will be declared on March 10. The single-phased assembly election will decide the fate of 632 candidates in the state.
