Hajipur Lok Sabha MP and Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party chief Pashupati Kumar Paras on Tuesday advised his nephew Chirag Paswan not to betray the people of his constituency after Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) head claimed to contest from the same seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. "His claim of contesting from Hajipur is baseless,” said the estranged uncle. A day after rejoining the National Democratic Alliance, Chirag Paswan on Tuesday said he would contest the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Bihar's Hajipur seat.

“I would like to advise him that he should not betray the people of his constituency and contest from his present seat," Paras advised Paswan, reported news agency ANI.

A stronghold of the late Ram Vilas Paswan, his son, and brother both are keen on contesting the 2024 polls from the Hajipur seat. Following Ram Vila Paswan’s death in October 2020, the Lok Jan Shakti party suffered a split as Paras broke away from a faction of the party and went on to become a Union minister in the Modi Cabinet.

"I can say that in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, I will contest from Hajipur seat," ANI quoted Paswan as saying ahead of the meeting of NDA allies in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Despite differences, Paswan was seen touching feet of his uncle at the meeting today.

On his return to the NDA fold after three years, Paswan said, "Talks were going on for a long time. We had some concerns and discussions were held over it and very amicably and positively an agreement was reached. Our aim is the 2024 Lok Sabha and 2025 Bihar election."

Training his guns on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Paswan said the JD(U) leader will only harm the alliance in which he is part.

"Nitish Kumar jis gathbandhan mein rahenge, wo uss gathbandhan ko nuksan hi denge (Nitish Kumar will only harm the alliance in which he is part of)," Paswan said.
