When Delhi Chief Minister Atishi went to Raj Bhavan on Sunday to submit her resignation to the Lieutenant Governor, L-G VK Saxena took a dig at her over the pollution of Yamuna. According to sources, the L-G told the former CM that she lost because of the 'curse of Yamuna Maa'.
Sources also said that L-G Saxena had told Atishi that he had warned former CM of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal about the 'curse of Yamuna' because he got the Supreme Court to stopped a project to clean the river.
According to Raj Bhavan sources, Atishi did not react to the L-G's comment. When The Times of India contacted the L-G Secretariat regarding this, it refused to comment.
As soon as the election results came on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi fiercely attacked the Aam Aadmi Party for not respecting the faith of the people. Taking a pledge to clean and beautify the Yamuna, PM Modi said that these people trampled the faith of the people of Delhi under their feet and then openly blamed Haryana. He ended his speech by repeatedly saying 'Yamuna Maiyya ki Jai'.
Earlier, while campaigning during the Delhi elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that BJP government will construct Yamuna River Front on the river in three years after being voted to power.
HM Shah said, as quoted by news agency ANI, "Kejriwal had said that he would take a dip in river Yamuna, but he did not do so...Kejriwal ji, you did not clean the Yamuna river, but today I want to say that we will construct Yamuna River Front on the river in three years after being voted to power."
