Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 LIVE: Key Issues
The 27-day campaign came to an end on Monday evening, marking the start of the mandatory silence period before voting. The political discourse was marked by intense debates over key issues such as the Sheesh Mahal controversy, pollution in the Yamuna, and allegations of voter list tampering.
The BJP directed its attack on Kejriwal over corruption accusations, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP chief JP Nadda leading the charge. Modi urged voters to oust AAP from power, calling it “AAP-da” (disaster) for the city.
In return, the AAP highlighted its achievements in education and healthcare, while accusing the BJP of attempting to create a water crisis in Delhi. Kejriwal claimed that the Haryana government had deliberately contaminated the Yamuna river, accusing them of trying to “genocide” the city. Additionally, the AAP labelled the BJP as the "Gali Galauj Party" because of the alleged abusive language used by BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri. Kejriwal also pointed fingers at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his role in law and order issues.
The Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, attacked both the AAP and BJP, accusing them of governance failures. Rahul Gandhi mocked Kejriwal over the Sheesh Mahal issue, calling the water supplied to Delhi “stinking” and dared Kejriwal to drink it. He also referred to Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia as the “architects” of the alleged liquor scam.
Each party has promised various freebies in its manifesto, with the AAP offering free bus rides for students, ₹18,000 for temple priests and gurdwara granthis, and insurance for auto and taxi drivers. The BJP has promised ₹21,000 for expecting mothers and subsidised cooking gas cylinders at ₹500. The Congress has pledged ₹8,500 per month for the unemployed, alongside ₹500 LPG cylinders for households.
Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 Highlights: Security Measures for February 5 Polling
In preparation for the February 5 elections, the Election Commission has deployed 220 paramilitary companies, 35,626 Delhi Police personnel, and 19,000 home guards to ensure smooth and peaceful voting. Nearly 3,000 polling booths have been marked as sensitive, with drone surveillance and Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) stationed at critical locations.
Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ravindra Yadav assured that all police personnel are committed to ensuring a free and fair election, adding that pre-poll security arrangements have already been implemented. As reported by PTI, the Delhi Police also coordinated with police forces from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and several other states to ensure robust security.
The results, set to be declared on February 8, will reveal whether the AAP manages to retain its power, whether the BJP breaks its losing streak, or whether the Congress makes an unexpected resurgence. With voter turnout likely to play a crucial role in shaping the outcome, all eyes are now on Delhi’s electorate as they head to the polls.
